Harry Brant, son of Greenwich billionaire Peter Brant and former model Stephanie Seymour, has been arrested for resisting arrest and drug possession after allegedly refusing to pay a taxi fare.
Brant, 20, was arrested July 20 and charged with larceny in the sixth
degree, illegal possession and interfering with an officer. Brant
allegedly refused to pay the $27.85 fare he was being charged by
Stamford Taxi after being taken to Greenwich Avenue and instead ran on
foot toward Railroad Avenue.
Police said they were dispatched to the scene and received a
description of the subject as a tall white mail in a black t-shirt and
black pants. Officers said they located Brant in the area of 55 Railroad
Avenue and he matched the description. Police also described Brant as
“sweating profusely and pale in color.”
According to the police report, Brant, a town resident, claimed he
had not been in a taxi at first only to change his story and admit he
had taken one to Greenwich but that he did not have the funds to pay
him.
When he was told he was being placed under arrest and that he should
place his hands behind his back, Brant allegedly yelled out “No! No!”
and attempted to run away from the officers.
The police report states, “Officers were able to grab ahold of Brant
and take him to the ground. Brant continued to resist officers’ attempts
to place him under arrest by tensing his muscles while swinging his
arms and kicking his legs. Officers were finally able to place him in
handcuffs.”
While conducting a search, police claim they found a small wallet on
Brant which contained a baggie containing a white substance that later
tested positive for narcotics. Police say Brant refused to provide
information to the officers until he was recognized by a police officer
who was familiar with him.
Brant was released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 4. His attorney, Philip Russell, declined to comment on the arrest.
This is not the first brush with the law for the Brant family. Peter
Brant Jr., 22, was arrested in March after an incident at John F.
Kennedy Airport where he allegedly assaulted a police officer. According
to Port Authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo’s statement to the press at the time, Peter Brant Jr. got belligerent when JetBlue staff prevented him from boarding an afternoon flight to West Palm Beach, Fla., because he was "severely intoxicated.”
Seymour was recently arrested too. On Feb. 1 she was arrested by the
GPD after two motor vehicle accidents on Jan. 15 that police said were a
result of drunk driving. Police said Seymour smashed into a utility
pole on Stanwich Road on Jan. 15, breaking it in half, then drove off in
a 2015 Range Rover. An hour or two later, according to authorities, she
backed into another vehicle off Exit 5 near I-95 at 9:15 p.m., which
led to a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Seymour was placed into the state’s alcohol education and accelerated
rehabilitation program as part of an agreement with the court.
